Mae eglwys wedi bod ar y safle hwn ers 1242. Dyluniwyd yr adeilad presennol gan Butterfield yn 1866, yn arddull yr Adfywiad Gothig. Mae ganddo dŵr to trumiog amlwg, teils Swydd Stafford, a thu mewn patrymog aml-liwiog trawiadol. Claddwyd Joseph Parry, cyfansoddwr enwog 'Myfanwy' ac 'Aberystwyth' yma yn 1903. Cyfeirir at Sant Awgwstin yn Saesneg fel 'Top Church' - mae'n dirnod ar gyfer mordwyo ar draws Bae Caerdydd.
