St Bridget's was consecrated in 1207, said to be one of the oldest churches in continuous use in Wales. The red sandstone church was enlarged in the Middle Ages, and has a timber belfry topped with a pyramid roof. It stands on the banks of the river that separates England and Wales, in the grounds of Skenfrith Castle. The massive original altar stone has five incised crosses, and survived the Reformation by being hidden under the floor.
