Welsh architect John Humphreys built what is said to be perhaps the most ambitious chapel in Wales in 1870, for the then-huge sum of £18,000. It is known as the 'Cathedral of Welsh Nonconformity', and has a largely unaltered interior and fittings. The facade has eight huge Corinthian columns and arches, and the interior is a masterclass in mahogany, with an impressive choir gallery and a distinctive three-case organ.
